Ø The reviews are written by enthusiasts interested in hearing the best possible performance from their hi-fi systems. Our musical tastes are wide ranging but we do tend to focus on rock, blues and jazz, rather than classical music during the review process.

Ø The reviews are carried out by two or more people working together to guarantee the impartiality of the review. Where there are differences of opinion, this is highlighted in the review.

Ø The review sessions involve listening to music and reporting perceived changes in the sound quality as alterations are made to the review system. We are not techies with tons of measuring equipment – just a pair of ears (each!) and a keen interest in achieving the best possible sound from a hi-fi system.

Ø During the review all music is listened to at realistic volume levels. We believe that if you have invested several thousand pounds/euros/dollars in your system then you will want to hear the results of that investment. Whereas it is possible to learn what a system is capable of doing at low volume, we want to hear what it actually delivers.

Ø All opinions expressed are personal and so if you disagree with the conclusions drawn that is probably because you have different views regarding the musical presentation and performance from hi-fi systems. We respect those views and would appreciate your respect in return. To be clear – we prefer a very dynamic sound with a primary emphasis on musical integrity. The soundstage should have realistic width, height and depth but the ability to present specific nuances within a 3D image is secondary to the precision with which dynamic scale and musical timing is delivered.
